This type of polyethylene is the newest of all. It is similar to HDPE but has a lower crystallinity due to the high number of short chain branches. Therefore, it also has a reduced density normally below 940 kg / m3. Similarly, PEs with densities between 930 and 940 kg / m3 are also called medium density polyethylene or MDPE. LLDPE is used to make both flexible and rigid products. It is often used in blends to make thinner films. It is also used to produce wrappers made with multiple layers of film. LLDPE is very durable and retains its original shape. These properties are very useful in the manufacture of large objects, such as lids. LPEPE linear low density polyethylene, similar to HDPE but introducing longer olefins as comonomers such as 1-butene, 1-hexene, 1-octene. LLDPE is defined by a density range of 0.915-0.925 g / cm3. Linear polyethylene is normally produced with molecular weights in the range of 200,000 to 500,000, but it can be even higher. LLDPE is a substantially linear polymer with a significant number of short branches, commonly produced by copolymerizing ethylene with short-chain alpha-olefins (e.g. 1-butene, 1-hexene and 1-octene). LLDPE has higher tensile strength than LDPE, has higher impact and puncture resistance than LDPE. A lower film thickness (gauge) can be burnt than low density polyethylene, with better breaking strength (ESCR), but it is not as easy to process.
